Moiseev (The HSE University, Moscow, moiseevjen@yandex.ru ) SEASONAL WARS OF 1792–1799: CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CAMPAIGN OF 1792–1793 Abstract: The article, based on the materials of Alexey R. Ryabinin, Doctor of Sciences, the Professor of the HSE University, is devoted to one of a series of military campaigns called “seasonal wars” that took place on the territory of modern Vietnam in 1792–1799 between the Tây Sơn dynasty and the leader of the southern landowners Nguyễn Anh. The seasonal wars illustrated the determination of Nguyễn Anh, ruler of Gia Đ nh (later he would became the Emperor Gia Long, the founder of the Nguyen dynasty, who ruled Vietnam for almost a century and a half) to fight for power against the Tây Sơn, and became a kind of a test for the future Emperor.The first campaign was to be a first step towards defeating the Tây Sơn dynasty. Nguyễn Anh’s goal was capturing Quinyon, the capital of Nguyen Văn Nh c who was one of the leaders of the Tây Sơn uprising. Keywords: Vietnam, history, seasonal wars.
